Una B. Ryan, of Cornwall, NY entered into eternal rest on October 21, 2018 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern, NY. She was 85 years old.

The daughter of the late Murtagh Hamill and Sarah (Tennyson) Hamill, Una was born on October 5, 1933 in Brooklyn, NY.

Una received a Degree in Nursing and was retired from the VA Castle Point Hospital in Wappingers Falls, NY. During and after her career, she was the founder, owner and operator of Slemish Kennels.

She was an active member of St. Joseph’s Church. A family statement reads: “She had a love for animals that was as deep and profound as her love for the Lord. Specifically Shetland Sheepdogs/Collies which she had dedicated an immense amount of time to training, showing, breeding and befriending. Her love for her family was just as significant. This she displayed in every hot meal she prepared, every thoughtful gift she gave and every ounce of honesty.” She will be missed greatly.

Una was predeceased by her loving husband, Daniel G. Ryan in 2015. She is survived by her son: Kieran D. Ryan; her daughter: Deirdre M. Ryan and wife, Melanie Mann-Ryan; her daughter-in-law: Cathy Ryan; her grandchildren: Brendan Ryan, Eamonn Ryan, Deirdre Buchanan, Roland Monroe and Christina Melanson; and three great grandchildren: Emma Ryan Melanson, Gavin Monroe and Gabriela Monroe. In addition to her husband, Una was predeceased by her son: Major Brendan Ryan U.S.M.C.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, November 2nd at St. Joseph’s R.C. Church, 4 St. Joseph Place, New Windsor, NY. Inurnment will follow the Mass at St. Thomas Cemetery, Cornwall, NY. Cremation took place at Cedar Hill Crematory, Middle Hope, NY.

Memorial Contributions in Una’s name may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
