Obituary for Samuel Ryan "Sam" Schultz

SAMUEL RYAN SCHULTZ
December 24, 1999 – September 24, 2022
Washingtonville, NY

Samuel Ryan "Sam" Schultz passed peacefully in his sleep on September 24th 2022 as a result of his lifelong condition Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. He was 22.

Born on December 24th, 1999 in Newburgh, NY, Sam was the best big brother to his sister Kiera Schultz, and the son of parents that couldn't have been more proud of, nor in awe of his strength and tenacious spirit: mother Helene Schultz, father Dennis M. Schultz, and stepmother Allison Schultz of Washingtonville, NY. He is the grandson of Dennis P. Schultz, and Annette Calabrese, and the late Patricia Smith. Sam is the nephew of Maria Barki, Christopher Barki, Samantha Smith and Tricia Smith; cousin to Jackson Barki, Jaylee and Mazzury Smith, Daymon and Elly Kopp, Cenedra Halsey, and Kahlaya Mcalphin.

Excelling at writing, Sam graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism, class of 2022, from Stony Brook University in Long Island. Sam will always be remembered for his brilliant mind, great sense of humor with a quick wit, and the kindest, most loving sensitive heart. He enjoyed his video games, many favorite TV shows, attending concerts and New York Mets games, as well as spending time with his various beloved pets during his life: Dogs Monty and Ginger, Cats Punky, Ozzy, Ravie, Choppa, Ellie, Mila and Max, Rodents Schma, The Fuzz, Algernon, Ra and Jellybean, Betta Tree Fishy and Bearded Dragon Lisa (there may be a fish or rodent that might have gone unmentioned). He was an avid fan of the NY Giants and NY Rangers. Sam will also always be remembered for being an assistant coach alongside coach Bill of the Washingtonville girl’s softball team, for volunteering at the Blooming Grove Humane Society, being a great friend to those in the pool league, playing percussion in band throughout his years at Washingtonville Middle School and High School, and for taking being knocked over by a truck in the middle of the street in the center of the Village of Washingtonville in stride and laughter. Sam was a beam of light in everybody's life he came into contact with. Being passionate about advocating for human rights, he was beyond an amazing human being that we will never forget.

Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 2nd at Quigley-Sullivan Funeral Home, Inc., 337 Hudson Street Cornwall-On-Hudson, NY. To honor Sam, please wear green and dress casually.
