Obituary for Richard A. Miller Sr.

RICHARD ALLEN MILLER, SR.
December 5, 1932 – April 28, 2021
Cornwall-on-Hudson, NY

Richard Allen Miller, of Cornwall-on-Hudson entered into eternal life on Wednesday, April 28, 2021. He was 88 years old.

The son of the late George H. Miller, Dorothy Miller (Mills) and stepfather Russ Mills, Richard was born on December 5, 1932 in Buffalo, NY. He was predeceased by his 2 brothers: George H. Miller Jr and Harry Miller from Tonawanda, NY.

Richard was a GM13 for the Audiovisual Production Branch of the United States Military Academy at West Point for 34 years. He retired in 1996. Among his years of civil service, he received many awards including the 1978 Thomas Jefferson Award and one of his many Academy documentary films was nominated for the White House award.

Richard honorably and proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Navy. He served on the Destroyer USS Damato (DDE-871) in the Mediterranean.

Throughout his 88 years Richard held many positions and had many hobbies including spending time behind the camera filming memories, assisting the police rescue scuba unit in Tonawanda as well as taking his sons scuba diving. He enjoyed nature, camping, fishing, sports, tennis, racquetball, playing cribbage and many card games (crazy 8’s & scat). He loved the ocean, and spending time maintaining a crystal blue pool for all of us. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and mentor.

He was a deeply humble-spirited man who led his family through example and love. Our dad leaves his mark in the world through the love he gave his family. He will be greatly missed.

Richard is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Ann Miller, 2 sons: Richard Miller Jr., Brien Miller (Dawn) and 6 daughters: Laurie Greiner (Phil), Dorothy Brewer (Jim), Ann Marie Giovinazzo (Joe), Mary Therese Miller, Kimberly Krafft (Rich) and Shannan Coakley (Duane); 15 grandchildren: Ricky, Christopher, Cathy, Matthew, Daniel, Joey, Briana, Leigh, Mikaela, Jessica, Aimee, Robyn, Kimberly, Frankie, and Brandon; and 6 great grandchildren.

A private memorial will be held in honor of Richard and the courageous life he lived. He was a beautiful gentleman.
