Richard “Mickey” McDermott, of Beacon, N.Y., entered into eternal rest on May 23, 2022 at home. He was 87 years old.
The son of Richard and Leona McDermott, Richard was born on November 22, 1934 in New York, NY.
Mickey graduated from Beacon High School in 1952, where he famously led the Beacon Bulldogs to an undefeated season on the football field - even defeating powerhouse Newburgh Free Academy in a final game. He went on to earn his Engineering degree from NYU.
Mickey and his late wife, Gail, married in 1957, and raised their family in Cornwall, NY. He was employed by Prudential Insurance for 30 years, and after retiring, enjoyed the game of tennis, “wine time”, and being the “Pop Pop” to his six grandchildren. He always said he had a life well-lived with no regrets.
He is survived by his son, Todd McDermott and wife Kimberly of Port Jervis, NY; his daughter, Beth Ann McDermott and partner Brian of Newburgh, NY; six grandchildren: Kaitlin Bishop and husband Jeff, Sarah DiCarlo and husband Thomas, Laura Beesecker and husband Andrew, Griffin McDermott and wife Christine, Gavin McDermott, and Grace McDermott; his two great-grandchildren: Amelia Bishop and Brooks Beesecker; and his loving companion, Teddy Coughlin. He was preceded in death by his wife Gail McDermott.
A private family service will be held on Friday, May 27, 2022 at Quigley-Sullivan Funeral Home, Inc., 337 Hudson Street, Cornwall-On-Hudson, NY.
