Ramon C. Mercado of Newburgh, NY entered into eternal rest at 8:05 pm, on May 9, 2023 at Montefiore St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital, Newburgh, NY. He was 79 years old.
The son of the late Santos Mercado and Ricarda (Candelaria) Mercado, Ramon was born on September 9, 1943 in Anasco, Puerto Rico.
Ramon was a Retired Doorman for New York Local 32BJ SEIU in New York City, NY.
Ramon “Papa” (to all his grandchildren) was a devout Catholic who found great strength and solace reading his bible/prayer book daily. Family and friends could see the depth of his love, as it was genuine and unending. He shared a very special bond with his siblings, nieces, nephews and grandchildren and came up with many priceless expressions that will be remembered tenderly. He will be especially remembered for his love of fishing and animals, especially his dog Athena. He will be missed greatly.
Ramon is survived by his loving wife of 50 years: Blanca I. (Figueroa) Mercado at home; his daughter: Jasmin (Mercado) Miranda (Edgar) of Newburgh, NY; his sons: Ramon C. Mercado, Jr. of Bronx, NY, Jeffrey Mercado (Gloria Diaz) of New Windsor, NY, José L. Mercado (Tara) of Middletown, NY, and Jason Mercado of Newburgh, NY; and 9 grandchildren - Jonathan, Jose, Brianna, Julian, Joshua, Jason, Jiovanni, Jordan, Jacob.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 18th at Quigley-Sullivan Funeral Home, Inc., 337 Hudson Street Cornwall-On-Hudson, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 19th at Sacred Heart R.C. Church, 301 Ann Street, Newburgh, NY. Interment will follow the Mass at Woodlawn Cemetery, New Windsor, NY.
