Obituary for Nilon D. Davis

Nilon Dorothea Davis entered into eternal rest in Newburgh, New York on August 23, 2020. She was 85 years old.

Nilon was born in St. Paul, Antigua on April 20, 1935 to the late James ‘Daddy Backrah’ Davis and the late Ivy Rosetta ‘Angen’ Davis. There, she was raised with her 5 brothers. As a young woman she resided in Potters Village, Antigua where she raised her 12 children. However, if you ever stop by her home, you would think she was raising the village. Her home was always filled with family and friends and you would not be able to differentiate the friends from her children because she made sure all were fed and well loved.

Nilon worked at Mill Reef Club-Antigua before immigrating to New York in 1990. There she met many of her great friends and had some of her fondest memories. She took pleasure in cooking and felt satisfied at the enjoyment it gave to people.
She would always share stories of her work and took great pride in what she did. She worked at the New York Foundling Hospital in NYC before her retirement in 2002.

Nilon was never alone and always lived with members of her family. She lived in the boroughs of Queens, The Bronx and Brooklyn, NY before moving upstate to Newburgh, NY in 2012. She planned to move back “home” to Antigua, to enjoy the rest of her years. However, in her home in Newburgh, NY, she passed away unexpectedly on August 23, 2020.

Nilon is preceded in death by her parents, James Davis and Ivy Rosetta Davis; her brother Ralston David; her grandsons Roald Davis Jr., Rusean Nathaniel and Arvind Padmanabhan.; her son-in-law Simpson ‘Hollywood’ Solomon; and her best friend Agatha Francis.

Nilon is survived by her brothers Sonny David; Denroy David and sister-in-law Curlitta David; MacKenzie David; Leroy ‘Nackie’ David and sister-in-law Collette David. Her children Hugh ‘Tamo’ Huggins and daughter-in-law Helen Huggins; Roald ‘Matt’ Davis and daughter-in-law Magdeline Davis; Sharon Bloodman; Rosetta ‘Babe’ Nathaniel; Diahnne Nathaniel; Lewelyn ‘Tonto’ Nathaniel; Vanessa Lewis and son-in-law Daniel ‘Mac’ Lewis; David ‘Nanty’ Nathaniel; Paul ‘Pope Paul’ Nathaniel; Sean ‘Parrot’ Nathaniel; Zelda ‘Roxanne’ Padmanabhan and son-in-law Vikram Padmanabhan; Leslie ‘Bim’ Nathaniel and daughter-in-law Tatum Nathaniel; 28 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She lived her life trusting The Lord and instilled in her children to know and serve God. She is in eternal rest with her Lord and Savior.
