Michael K. Moroney died suddenly on February 2, 2023 at his home in Florida at the age of 81. Michael was the son of James and Kathryn Moroney. He was born on August 18, 1941 in St. Luke’s Hospital in Newburgh, NY.
Michael married Katherine Byrne on January 15, 1966. They just celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service after serving his community for over 20 years and moved to Florida.
In addition to his wife, Michael is survived by his daughter: Christine DeCara and her husband Ruben; his son: Timothy Moroney and his wife Angela; his granddaughter: Meagan Gschwind and her husband Thomas; his grandsons: Justin, Ryan, and Brandon Moroney, and Andres DeCara; his great grandchildren: Marlee and Gavin Gschwind. He is also survived by his two sisters: Sr. Nancy Moroney of Mt Vernon NJ and Jean Bouton of Cornwall NY.
Michael honorably and proudly served his country as a member of the US Army during the Vietnam Era. He was a lifelong member of the Storm King Engine Co. #2. He had a passion for camping at Neversink campgrounds, fishing and enjoying life in the sunshine.
Visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, February 20th at Quigley-Sullivan Funeral Home, Inc., 337 Hudson Street Cornwall-On-Hudson, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 21st at St. Thomas of Canterbury Church, 340 Hudson Street, Cornwall-On-Hudson, NY. Rev. Rees Doughty will officiate. Interment with Military Honors will follow the Mass at St. Thomas Cemetery, Cornwall, NY.
