Obituary for Michael A. "Mike" Wojehowski

MICHAEL A. WOJEHOWSKI
May 12, 1964 – November 17, 2022
Cornwall-On-Hudson, NY

Michael A. Wojehowski unexpectedly passed away of a sudden cardiac incident on Thursday, November 17, 2022, at Montefiore St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital in Newburgh, NY.

Born on May 12, 1964 in Cornwall, NY to Walter J. and Josephine Blaine Wojehowski, Mike was the youngest of fifteen siblings. Mike grew up in Cornwall and graduated from Cornwall High School in 1983. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Sociology from the State University of New York at Oswego in 1987 and was later employed at PRG in New Windsor, working as a shipping and receiving specialist.

A man of simple means but a very generous heart, Mike was always willing to help someone in need. Humble, caring, and kind, Mike volunteered at the Food Bank of the Hudson Valley during the height of the pandemic when volunteers were needed most. Mike was very proud of his rekindled faith and returned to the Catholic Church, received his Confirmation, and became an active member of St. Thomas of Canterbury Church in Cornwall-on-Hudson, NY. Mike selflessly donated much of his time to cleaning and volunteering at the Church. Mike leaves behind a legacy of service to friends and strangers alike, personifying the mantra of “Love thy neighbor…”.

Finding joy and beauty in nature, Mike regularly appreciated the bountiful flora of the Hudson Valley region. Mike regularly planted new patio flowers with each season, beautifying his small portion of our planet while also regularly performing caretaking duties for his parents’ gravesites. Mike enjoyed working out and regularly attended the gym. Most of all, Mike loved spending time with his family–particularly his nieces and nephews.

In a final, selfless act of kindness, Mike posthumously donated his organs so that they may help a complete stranger. Mike was a remarkable steward of kindness who strove constantly to improve and beautify the people and things around him. The world has lost a “great human being” who brought so much joy and altruistic good to all who knew him.

Mike is survived by his siblings: Peggy, Richard (Eileen), Steven, Theresa (Gary), Robert, Danton, and Beth (Charlie). He is also survived by sisters-in-law: Suzanne and Kathy. Finally, he is survived by his loving nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews. Mike was predeceased by his parents: Walter and Josephine; and siblings: Joanne, Walter, Thomas, Kenneth, Gary, Jerome, and Susie.

Visitation with the family will be held at Quigley-Sullivan Funeral Home at 337 Hudson Street, Cornwall-on-Hudson, NY from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on December 5th. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 6th at Saint Thomas of Canterbury Church, 340 Hudson Street, Cornwall-on-Hudson, NY 12520.
