October 5, 1955 – April 20, 2020
Vernon, NJ

Maureen R. Wisniewski, of Vernon, NJ entered into eternal rest on April 20, 2020, with her loving daughter by her side, at Newton Medical Center, Newton, NJ. She was 64 years old.

The daughter of the late James E. Ryan and Dorothea (Percey) Ryan, Maureen was born on October 5, 1955 in Paterson, NJ. She grew up in Oakland, NJ, and later moved to Long Beach, CA and West Milford, NJ, before calling Vernon, NJ home for the past 28 years.

Maureen graduated from Indian Hills High School in 1974, and earned her Associate of Applied Science Degree in Criminal Justice from Berkeley College. She worked for many years as a legal assistant, but found her niche a few years ago as the Office Administrator for Crew Engineers, Inc.

She loved spending time with her daughter, whether it was traveling to new places both near and far; exploring historical sites (always insisting that she was, in fact, excited to be hearing about what made it “cool” according to her daughter); grabbing a bite to eat at their favorite restaurant (she judged how good a place was based on their chicken francaise or cheesecake); catching the latest movie at the theater (as long as it was open, the Warwick Drive In of course); or just sitting on the couch watching bad TV.

Maureen’s hobbies included listening to rock and heavy metal music, with some movie soundtracks mixed in; reading a good sci/fi-fantasy series or a thrilling mystery; and traveling (she enjoyed anywhere with a beach, but she loved Ireland best!).

Being a dog owner for most of her life, she was a big supporter of animal rescues. She was also passionate about supporting any and all fire departments; in her words, “putting your lives on the line for total strangers without question by willingly running into a burning building” was the definition of a hero.

Maureen will best be remembered for her immense kindness, her ever-giving heart, her ability to make any holiday or event special, and above all, her fierce love for those she cared about. She was always there to lend a hand to a loved one in need, and went above and beyond to do whatever she could to help. She is dearly loved and respected by many friends she considered family, and she will be missed greatly by all.

Maureen is survived by her beloved daughter, Tara M. Wisniewski; her loved sisters and brother; many loved cousins; and loved nieces and nephew.

Due to the public health concerns of the Corona Virus (Covid-19), a memorial service for Maureen will be held at a later date. On behalf of the family, thank you for your understanding and support during this difficult time.

Maureen we knew growing up made you smile. She had a good sense of humor. She was always kind ! She reunited us all again. She worked hard and searched out everyone. She said we experienced a special time together. As an adult she reached out and offered help when you were in need. She was still funny, kind and a great person. I miss her daily posts. I will think her and smile.

Maureen was one of the most giving person I've ever know. She cared about every single person and accepted everyone just as they were. Maureen found many classmates from the OLPH class of 1970 and spearheaded a reunion in 2017. We were all so fortunate to reconnect with her and each other. She had endless energy and a big heart. Maureen could always make you laugh.
