Obituary for José Ángel Diaz Rodriguez

JOSÉ ÁNGEL DÍAZ RODRÍGUEZ
March 26, 1941 – April 26, 2020
New Windsor, NY

José Ángel Díaz Rodríguez of New Windsor, NY entered into eternal rest on April 26, 2020 at Montefiore St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital, Newburgh, NY. He was 79 years young.

The son of the late Cecilio Díaz and Natividad Rodríguez, José was born on March 26, 1941 in Humacao, Puerto Rico.

Although Jose enjoyed many jobs, he was most known as a Chef and retired from Annie’s Diner in the Bronx, NY.

He grew up under the Catholic faith and raised his children with those beliefs. “He was a wise, honest, humble, courageous, hard working, honorable, caring, tremendous loving husband, father and grandfather. He loved his home in New Windsor with views of the mountains and blue skies. He loved to watch the deer rest on the front lawn of his home. When he was not working as a driving instructor part-time he could be found playing basketball with his grandchildren, barbecuing, or tending to his beloved garden where he grew tomatoes, eggplants and a multitude of other vegetables. He had several other pastimes which included fishing, boxing and cheering his favorite baseball team New York Mets.” He will be missed greatly.

Jose is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Gloria Mercedes Díaz, his son: Ángel Cecilio Díaz of New Windsor, NY; his daughters: Gloria Mercedes Díaz of New Windsor, NY and Marisol Díaz-Gordon of the Bronx, NY; his grandchildren: Julian Ray Mercado and Jacob Mercado.

Due to the public health concerns of the Corona Virus (Covid-19), a private Family Visitation will be held. A Graveside Service will take place at the Woodlawn Cemetery in New Windsor, NY. On behalf of the family, thank you for your understanding and support during this difficult time.
