JOHN E. CASSIDY

New Windsor, NY

John E. Cassidy, of New Windsor, NY entered into eternal rest on October 27, 2023 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was 85 years old.

The son of the late Mark Lawrence Cassidy and Rena Ellen (McDonald) Cassidy, John was born on February 14, 1938 in Peekskill, NY.

John was a retired Laborer for the Laborer’s International Union, Local 17 in Newburgh, NY. John was also a Supervisor at Steel Style shipyard, Newburgh, NY; overseeing the construction of various Navy projects.

John honorably and proudly served his country as a member of the US Air Force. He was an active member of the St. Marianne Cope Parish and Catholic War Veterans.

John was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather. He took tremendous pride in all of his grandchildren's accomplishments and endeavors. John was an active and eager member of the Catholic War Veterans. He especially enjoyed preparing floats for their parades. John also channeled so much of his energy into running Cassidy’s Driving Range in Blooming Grove. For a quarter century he championed the honor system and so many of his customers became his friends. His perpetual tinkering and garage sale shopping were among his daily retirement activities. He will be deeply missed by family and friends alike.

John is survived by his beloved wife: Mary T. (Trollan) Cassidy at home; his daughter: Theresa A. (Cassidy) Papaleo and her husband Frank of Wallkill, NY; his sons: Patrick T. Cassidy and his wife Rebecca of New Windsor, NY and Brian J. Cassidy and his wife Mary Elizabeth of Monroe, NY; and his 9 grandchildren. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his son: Michael S. Cassidy.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 2nd at Quigley-Sullivan Funeral Home, Inc., 337 Hudson Street Cornwall-On-Hudson, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, November 3rd at St. Thomas of Canterbury Church, 340 Hudson Street, Cornwall-On-Hudson, NY. Interment with Military will follow the Mass at St. Thomas Cemetery.
