Obituary for Horst W. Hoffmann

HORST W. HOFFMANN

Horst W. Hoffmann, of Cornwall-On-Hudson, NY entered into eternal rest on October 24, 2023 at Montefiore St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital in Newburgh, NY. He was 73 years old.

The son of the late Josef Hoffmann and Lienchen Kniereim Hoffmann, Horst was born on April 6, 1950 in Pirmasens, Germany. A spirited traveler, Horst arrived in NYC in 1969 and a few years later settled upstate where he met his beloved wife, Tara Ashcroft Hoffmann in Saratoga Springs.

Horst is survived by his loving family, including his wife Tara, their two sons Rainer O. Hoffmann and Colin D. Hoffmann, his daughter Andrea Hoffmann Vester, their spouses, six grandchildren, one great granddaughter as well as his siblings in Germany including Annemarie Hoffmann Becker, Andreas Hoffmann and Martin Hoffmann.

An entrepreneur, Horst owned several local businesses, including Playtog’s Plaza Liquors in Middletown and Eutotronix USA in Cornwall on Hudson. He also served in local law enforcement. Horst was very engaged in his community of Cornwall-On-Hudson and served the village he loved on the Zoning Board of Appeals as a member and Chairman for many years. He was an avid soccer player and fan who competed for many years in various men’s leagues and also served the community by coaching and refereeing local youth teams. He was a founding member of Cornwall’s travel soccer club, Cornwall United. Horst enjoyed hiking and nature, especially hunting, fishing, and skiing. His family will miss him dearly when visiting his favorite trails in the Adirondacks and would like to express their gratitude and appreciation to Rhona Benjamin and Angela Angel for the care, patience and assistance they provided in his final years.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 1st at Quigley-Sullivan Funeral Home, Inc., 337 Hudson Street Cornwall-On-Hudson, NY. A private burial at Pleasant Hill Cemetery will be hosted at the discretion of the family.
