Obituary

GERTRUDE HUNTER
April 19, 1931 – March 27, 2021
Central Valley, NY formerly of Mays Landing, NJ and Long Island, NY

Gertrude (Crosbie) (Higgins) Hunter, of Central Valley, NY entered into eternal rest on March 27, 2021 surrounded by her loving family. She was 89 years old.

The daughter of the late James Leo Crosbie and Isabelle Marie (Campbell) Crosbie, Gertrude was born on April 19, 1931 in Nyack, NY.

Gertrude was a retired Director of Housekeeping for the Tropicana in Atlantic City, NJ.

Fondly known as Gerri, our beautiful Mother was wise, loving and so devoted to her faith. She was a Eucharistic Minister and involved in her prayer groups. She prayed the rosary daily. Mom will be missed but never out of our hearts and her memories will always keep us smiling.

Gertrude is survived by her husband: Alexander Hunter; her children: Ellen Carroll, predeceased James Higgins, Maryanne and Thomas Coppinger, Jane and Robert Bodo, Patrick and Diane Higgins, Elizabeth and Michael Sanator, Kathleen and Stanley Wong, Thomas and Vivian Higgins, predeceased baby Mary Higgins and Tara and Gary Wescott. She was beloved by her 23 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. Gertrude is also survived by her sister Jane Hylas of Stony Point, NY and Nan Fabio of Pearl River, NY; and many nieces and nephews whom she loved.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 1st at Quigley-Sullivan Funeral Home, Inc., 337 Hudson Street, Cornwall-On-Hudson, NY. Due to the continued public health concerns of covid-19, please know that there is an occupancy limitation which may cause a wait time. Facial coverings must be worn in the funeral home at all times.

A Mass of Christian Burial will follow the visitation at 1:30 p.m. at the Church of St. Patrick, 445 Route 32, Highland Mills, NY.

I was friendly with your Mom (and Alex) at Assumption Church in South Jersey. She was such a lovely woman and always had the sweetest smile. She was involved in many ministries at Assumption. I was happy to know her. I am sorry for your loss. Nancy
