Obituary

GERALD “JERRY” J. JAEGER
May 8, 1939 – June 4, 2021
Cornwall, NY

Gerald James Jaeger “Jerry”, of Mountainville, NY passed away on June 4, 2021 at home with his family at his side, following a courageous battle with brain cancer. He was 82 years old.

Born on May 8, 1939 in Goshen, NY, Jerry was the son of the late John F. Jaeger and Elizabeth V. (Coan) Jaeger.

Following high school, Jerry was a plant supervisor at Star Expansion in Mountainville, NY, and later was the personal driver for the late H. Peter Stern.

Jerry was an active member of Mountainville Engine Company #3 Volunteer Fire Department for 60 years, where he served as Captain (1971-1973) and President (1991-2011). He was also a member of the Orange County Fireman’s Association and an honorary member of Highland Engine Company.

A family statement reads: “Jerry was the stability of the family. His low-key, laidback manner kept even the most stressful times in check. This and his kindness and gentleness were genuine qualities that led to his lifetime of bringing joy and happiness to others. We loved and will miss the family parties, travel and vacations that we shared, as well as the great stories that he always made interesting.”

Jerry is survived by his loving wife of 53 years: Frances (Randazzo) Jaeger at home; his son: Marc Jaeger and his wife Holli of Walden, NY; his grandchildren: Laynie, Ian, and Avery; and his great granddaughter: Isla; his sister: Catherine Witherel and her husband Preston of Gardiner, NY; and his brother: Robert W. Jaeger and his wife Ruth of Mobile, AL; brothers-in-law: Rocco Randazzo and his wife Alice of New Windsor, NY, Richard Randazzo and his wife Mary of Cornwall, NY, and Eugene Randazzo of Cornwall-on-Hudson, NY; sisters-in-laws: Jean (Randazzo) Paolini of Cornwall-on-Hudson, NY and Dorothy Randazzo of Cornwall-on-Hudson, NY; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his brother: John Jaeger; his brother-in-law: James Randazzo; and sisters-in-law: Barbara Randazzo and Susan Randazzo.

Based on new CDC guidelines adopted by NYS, fully vaccinated individuals do not need to wear masks or be socially distanced, but unvaccinated individuals must continue to wear masks and be socially distanced in the funeral home.
