Obituary for Elva Louise Santoro (Hansen)

ELVA LOUISE SANTORO
October 28, 1928 – May 26, 2022
Cornwall-On-Hudson, NY

A much-loved gentle and caring soul, Elva Louise Santoro, died peacefully at her home in Cornwall-on-Hudson, NY, on Thursday, May 26, 2022 after a long illness. She was 93.

Elva is survived by her two sons: James B. Santoro Jr. and his wife JoAnn of Campbell Hall, NY and John R. Santoro and his wife Brenda of Portland, ME; her grandchildren: Evan Santoro and his wife Monique, Emily Willson and her husband Stephen, and Rosemary Santoro; as well as 5 beautiful great grandchildren: Reese, River, Emerson, Paige and Griffin.

Elva was a decades-long resident of Cornwall-on-Hudson and wife of the late James B. Santoro, Sr., the love of her life.

Born on October 28, 1928 to Louise and Oscar Hansen of Tompkins Cove, NY, Elva grew up with her 3 brothers: Henry, George and Harold. As a young woman, Elva worked at the Bear Mountain Inn for many years, marrying James Santoro in 1954, settling first in Fort Montgomery and later in Cornwall-On-Hudson. After raising her two boys, Elva went to work as the Office Manager and Bookkeeper for St. Thomas of Canterbury Church in Cornwall-on-Hudson enjoying new friends and many challenges. Elva retired from St. Thomas when James’ health began to fail.

With a patient and gentle manner, Elva was a woman of high integrity, dedication and loyalty. She loved to laugh, spend time with her sons and their families, work in her yard and tackle the daily crossword puzzle.

We take comfort in believing Elva is with the many loved ones she lost throughout the years and finally holding the hand of her beloved Jim.
