Obituary for Peter John Melnick

PETER JOHN MELNICK
May 17, 1946 – September 11, 2018
Mountainville, NY

Peter John Melnick, of Mountainville, NY entered into eternal rest on September 11, 2018 at St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital, Newburgh, NY. He was 72 years old.

The son of the late Jacob Melnick and Mary (Kastas) Melnick, Peter was born in Jersey City, NJ, grew up in Park Ridge, NJ and graduated from Pascack Hills High School. He received his “Greetings” to join the Army on March 1968 and was stationed at Fort Benning, before being sent to Vietnam, where, at the age of 22, he distinguished himself by exceptional heroism while serving as a cannoneer, he received the Army Commendation Medal with “V” Device for his bravery. Pete was proud of his country and service to it. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant.
After the service, he began working construction and started JPM Construction. He was a master at his craft who had a quick wit and dry sense of humor. The people that have worked with him over the years would say he was funny and inspiring (If he liked them). He was a supportive, understanding father who gave great advice and would offer a helping hand whenever he could. Unfortunately, years later, deteriorating health and ailments from Agent Orange exposure would take his life.

Pete will be deeply missed by his family and friends and by all who knew him and loved him.
