Elizabeth Margaret Rich Provenzano, resident of New Windsor passed away peacefully at home. Elizabeth entered the gates of Heaven on August 24, 2018 at the age of 91. Elizabeth, known to her brother as Babe, her family as Auntie and her friends as Liz, was born on December 29, 1926 in New York City; to Louis and Margaret Gilchrist Rich.

Elizabeth’s fondest childhood memories were spent with her brother Francis holding hands, as they walked to school each day. Elizabeth grew up in New York City and attended Holy Cross Elementary School, Cathedral High School, St. John’s University and St. John’s Law School. Elizabeth began her career in the newspaper industry at the age of 18 where she began working for the Chicago Tribune in the New York Times building in New York City; In 1951 Elizabeth passed the New York State Bar Exam. However, Liz only practiced law for 1 day. Liz then informed her parents and her brother Francis, “This career is not for me.”

At this point, Elizabeth continued to pursue her life long career in the field of Public Relations with Abe Schecter at the Chicago Tribune for 19 years. Liz, at the age of 35, accepted an offer from Hill & Knowlton a Public Relations Firm in NYC where she stayed for the next 30 years. Elizabeth was considered by many to be an exceptional intelligent young woman by the executives at Hill & Knowlton; it was not long before they offered her the position of Vice President Managing Director. Every executive who had the honor and privilege to work with her believed, if you want the job done right the first time, give the job to Liz. Throughout her life, Elizabeth was extremely proud of her law degree and never regretted her decision.

On June 21, 1965, Elizabeth and William Nicolo Provenzano were married until he passed away on August 14, 1989. William and Elizabeth had a beautiful marriage and shared a love which most people would pray for. Although, they had no children between them, they cherished their relationship with their daughter Barbara. Unfortunately, in 1971 Elizabeth’s sister in-law Doris Rich passed away. At that moment, William and Elizabeth knew Francis was now left to care for 5 young children alone.

For 18 years they spent their lives providing love and support to the 5 children, as if they were their own. As a devout Catholic, Elizabeth was a parishioner at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church in Tappan, NY for 53 years. Sacred Heart Church in NYC and volunteered at Encore Community Services for 19 years since retiring. Then Liz became dedicated to St. Joseph Church for the last 9 years since relocating to New Windsor. Her greatest loss was the death of her brother Francis in 2016.
