Montgomery, NY

Doris Bushell, 92, a resident of Orange County died on Wednesday, November 22, 2017 after a long illness. The daughter of George and Bella Bushell, she was born in New York City on May 12, 1925.

After graduation from High School in the Bronx, Doris joined the US Naval Reserve in 1945 as Seaman First Class, serving in Indiana and Tennessee. She was also the recipient of the Seaman First Class Victory Medal several years later.

Doris attended the Traphagen School of Fashion Design in New York City for 3 years. In 1954 her family moved to Denmark, Maine where she became a Buyer for the Carroll Reed Ski Shop in Conway, New Hampshire, an international mail order house. Later Doris owned and operated a fabric store with a sewing school.

In the 1980’s, Doris moved back to Fort Lee, New Jersey and taught sewing in the “Palisadium” (a large living complex that included sports and services). She then worked and finally retired from the business office of Kwasha Lipton Finances in Fort Lee.

In 1995 she moved back to Orange County continuing her sewing and creative skills, and joined the Cornwall Garden Club and helped to maintain the Sands Ring Home at Christmas and other yearly events.

Doris is survived by her brother: John and her sister-in-law Carol; her nieces: Jacqueline and Catherine; and her nephews: George, Paul and James. Doris was predeceased by her brothers: Robert and Donald Bushell.

Memorial Visitation will be held from 11a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday, December 2nd at Quigley Bros. Funeral Home, 337 Hudson St. Cornwall-On-Hudson, NY. A Funeral Service will be held at 12 p.m. following visitation. Interment with Military Honors will take place at St. Thomas Cemetery, Cornwall, NY.
